UK to tighten law on Cold Calling (and what this means for UWC Corp)

Companies that make unsolicited calls to consumers are to be hit with heavy fines under new laws in the United Kingdom. (click here to read the article)

The proposals will focus on companies which offer financial products and utility companies which use third party lists to target consumers, says the Government.

Powers to impose hefty fines will be granted. Nuisance callers such as PPI firms which gather information from unsolicited calls or texts and make spurious claims over payment protection insurance face fines up to 20 per cent of turnover.

The Nuisance Calls Action Plan, launched by the Department of Culture, has been developed with the help of the Information Commissioner’s office, Ofcom and consumer rights champion Which?

Culture Secretary Maria Miller said last night: “Nuisance calls must stop. At best they are an irritation and an unwanted intrusion. At worst they cause real distress and fear, particularly to the elderly or housebound. People need to feel safe and secure in their homes. The rules are clear; people have the right to choose not to receive unsolicited marketing calls.”

Also if you’re in the US and you’ve registered under the National Do Not Call Registry, then UWC Corp are breaching certain laws by calling you. If that is the case, you can file a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission.

To quote, “Every effort has been made to accurately represent our product(s) and its potential. Take note, you can use this in your complaint against them as they have blatantly lied to you.

This is the link to their Terms & Conditions-

http://apply.onlineincomesolution.com/terms/index.php

Nowhere does it say on their Terms & Conditions that you will receive phone calls by a UWC salesperson to hard sell their $1K+ “packages”, nor that you are agreeing to such calls by registering.

Incidently, the same website offers a 60 day money back Guarantee, providing you allow a minimum of two weeks for results, if the program isn’t working for you, in which case you would get a FULL REFUND.

But, chances are, you HAVE tried to get that refund, and UWC Corp have refused it. By law, UWC Corp MUST honour their guarantee, however they would make up all sorts of excuses not to honour it, like how you didn’t follow up on their training or you never really gave them a chance.

More likely then not, they will claim the website through which you register is NOT owned by them and is a third-party entity, in which case they are admitting liability for breaching rules against cold calling.

Either way, file your complaint to the Financial Trade Commission. Or if you reside in the UK, complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

I just got the identical phone call. I told him that I couldn’t afford more than $200 and his “as low as $100 to start” became $179.99. He got annoyed when I told him that I didn’t have a working credit card. I told him to call back next week or to leave me a phone number so I could call him because I needed to talk to my husband about it since it was such a large amount of money at christmas time. He started to pressure me and I politely asked him to stop. He pretty much told he to suck-it-up because that is how businesses are run. I promptly hung up on him. He instantly called back and my husband spoke with him. He was pushy and rude to my husband so he hung up as well. The guy instantly called back again. We told him to “lose our phone number” and hung up again. He called back AGAIN in which we had to tell him that his phone number would be blocked and he would be reported if he continued to harrass us. There is no doubt in my mind that this was a scam even if I did get his company information from a respectable site. I will be calling the anti-fraud hotline tomorrow to let them know about my phone call.
harrassed in canada by jerk in arizona
7 Dec 2012
My adult child signed up for information on this money making ‘venture’ while she was visiting us. She provided our home phone number. He called her while she was at our home and she told him that she didn’t have time to talk to him and that she wasn’t interested afterall. He pressured her on the phone until she hung up. Well he called our number a couple days later. I told him our daughter doesn’t live with us, that this is not her phone number, that I would pass along a message to her if he wanted to leave his name and number and she would call him. He hung up on me without a word. He called back this morning assuming that I was her when I answered. I told him that she doesn’t live here, that this is not her phone number, that this is not her address and I would appreciate it if he’d just stop calling. He told me that I can not make that request, that he will only stop calling if he is told by my adult child. I tried to explain to him again that she doesn’t live with us and that this in NOT her number and that he will have to just accept that and stop his calls. He kept telling me that I had to listen to him and I had to let him speak. I explained that this is my phone and NO I don’t have to listen, he needs to listen and stop calling. I asked to speak to his supervisor, he refused, I asked for his name and he refused. that’s when my husband took the phone. My husband agressively told this man to stop harrassing me and that he needs to take our number off his list. The man kept insisting that my husband needed to just listen to him. Using extremely ‘strong’ language in a loud deep angry voice my husband made it clear that we did not in fact have to listen to him, that he has to stop calling. The man became childish and antagonistic but would not agree to desist in future calls. We have spent the last few hours tracking his number…. we have also discussed some very fun and creative ways to deal with him should he be stupid enough to call our number again. It only takes a few minutes to trace someone and plug it into google earth 🙂
p.s does anyone have the website this parasite operates from…. It would be a very useful tool for us to know what this scam is that he’s been calling about.

UWC Corp EXPOSED

Source- http://www.justanswer.com/consumer-protection-law/7k9qy-started-uwc-corp-ith-everyone-saying-i-ll-start.html

I have started with UWC Corp. W ith everyone saying I’ll start selling right away and then kept getting phone calls to help up date my web site for a fee and training which I have been receiving. Have not made a cent and was promised that Christmas would be good. I fell for this, how stupid was that. It is selling for different companies for a %. That would be okay if hadn’t gone into debt thinking I would start paying that down within a couple of weeks. I write the company I said I was dissatisfied and thought it was a scam. I did get a call right away but much was not done except drop my monthly fee of 30.00 for 6 months. Started training to but high products on my site. I still fell like I have been scammed. I am in debt at the tune of $ 8000.00 over this. Can I do anything. Thank you

stevewlaw : Hi [USERNAME], my name is XXXXX XXX I will do the best to help you. My advice is general only and does not create an attorney-client relationship. I just did some quick online research on UWC Corp., or Universal Web Consulting. There are many reports that this is a scam and a ripoff. I see they are located in Phoenix, in the State of Arizona. I don’t know what the contracts or agreements look like that you signed with them. I presumed you signed something before you gave them $8000. I would let them know that you want a refund and will return everything to them that they provided to you, but that you want out of your agreement. You need to let them know that the statements and “guarantees” that they made to you were blatantly false, and that the services they provided to you were not worth anything near the $8000 that you have paid. In order to establish fraud or misrepresentation, you need to establish that they made false or misleading statements to you in order to induce you to do something, i.e., spend $8000. You need to establish that you relied on their false statements, and that you have been damaged because of that.

stevewlaw : If they do not willingly refund all or a significant part of your money, I suggest that you report them to the office of the Arizona Attorney General. They don’t take kindly to con men who pray on those on a fixed income looking to make an easy return on their money. I believe that the AZ Attorney General would take a serious look at UWC. That is the best way for you to start. You may very well have to file a justice court complaint against UWC in order to get your money back. You may be able to find a lawyer to take the case on a contingent fee basis, meaning that you pay nothing until you get a recovery. You can look up the Maricopa County Bar Association referral service to find an attorney who might be able to help you.

stevewlaw : I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I was speaking with a woman last night in a similar situation, who became very leery of the business when they asked her for $5000 and said they would give her the documents after she sent them her money. This was, of course, after taking her for $1200 already. I feel your pain. Companies like this should be shut down for good.

stevewlaw : I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let me know how things turn out. Please don’t forget to provide me with your positive feedback. Steve

stevewlaw : I just found this on Just Answer as well. Please read. I am sorry and wish I had better news for you.

stevewlaw : another blog you should check out…. http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/118882109380/7

stevewlaw : Have you been able to check out those sites? I wanted to follow up with you. And please don’t forget to provide me with your positive rating so that I may be compensated for my time. Thank you so much.

stevewlaw : I would appreciate your positive feedback for my efforts to help you.

stevewlaw : How did things turn out? I would appreciate your positive feedback.

UWC Corp’s fraudulent newspaper articles

Source- http://www.websitebabble.com/general-money-making-topics/25129-anyone-heard-uwccorp.html

because I read an article in the paper that advertised a woman who makes quite a bit of money from hm working only about 10hrs a wk using an affiliate site and I guess posting the url anywhere else she could, I thought I would join up and give it a try. UWCcorp home page didnt give a lot of information before you actually joined up (did give a free trial for about 5 days though) however that didnt really give me a lot of time to figure out that they only give you very basic info to start with, and then start to try and get you to buy one on one training, and purchase access to their resource library and tracking resources and a few other things getting quite pricey with different packages ranging from $300 to about $3,800. The website hosting itself is already $39.95 p/mth. So I created a very basic affiliate site thinking it would take off right away (yes I am a complete novice when it comes to this) and have not signed up for any training packages. I dont think my site has had any traffic and its made no money in the couple of weeks its been live, so I have been doing research on the net and getting some quite good information (for free I might add). I have realised that SBI seems to offer quite a bit of what UWC is trying to sell me on top of the website hosting and SBI charge less?!! Has anyone heard of UWC before? Is it a scam? lol
I didnt even realise when I started that unless I had a great idea for a niche market and some good content, it was unlikely the site would take off! So I started out with cosmetics as every girl loves that right so its got to be popular?! yeah but I think maybe too popular?!!! so Im actually thinking of shutting down the website until/if I actually get a great idea of something to write about and sell lol
Thank you Lisa to some really good basic info that may have saved me a headache and a lot of time wasted!

Lisa’s reply-

It makes my blood boil when I see companies fooling people into thinking you just post a link everywhere and you’ll make money. If you want to have any kind of success online today it’s about building a following of people who trust you.

What the company failed to explain is that you need to learn the fundamentals of marketing a website and you need to give people a reason to trust and value your content. So there’s no way to do that if you’re just posting links and not building up credibility.

Either that woman who supposedly succeeded is made up or she’s not telling the entire story. There are many ways to make money online but no matter what you’re doing, it starts with providing useful content (or a product) to a specific niche/audience. Build up trust by helping and providing info that is relevant/useful to them. Then monetize that traffic by selling products that relate to what they need.

It’s a much more transparent model and you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on training.

UWC Corp attempts to quash Scam “Myth”

Here is their article posted on talkbiznow.com

With countless testimonials from satisfied students, the UWCCorp Scam has been proven to be a myth. This company offers world-class solutions for online marketing. In today’s world of technology, it is imperative for businesses to have a strong line presence. The Internet gives businesses many platforms to capture a new audience and gain market share. The company’s web-based training gives businesses the knowledge and skills needed to develop effective websites and strategic marketing campaigns. UWC has become the premier name in digital marketing training. Because many college classes lack the up-to-date and practical knowledge needed for internet marketing, many business owners are turning to UWC to master the skills of internet marketing. From the comfort of their homes, business owners can take the company’s online training at their convenience. The bottom line is that the web-based training program at UWC is easy, effective and engaging. The Training at UWC UWC is a trusted name in the industry with an excellent training program. Here is a list of some of the features and highlights of the training program: -Professional: UWC is an authoritative company with a professional staff. The training program was developed from online experts who have years of hands-on experience. These experienced experts know all the online strategies that work. Students are given all the effective strategies for the latest online marketing trends, such as mobile marketing and Google+. -Business Oriented: The training program at UWC is geared specifically for businesses. Specific instruction is given on how businesses can develop brand and develop a customer base. Each venue of marketing is covered in detail, such as the creation of a Facebook business page. The program only presents strategies that have been proven to be effective for businesses. -Easy: The training program is comprised of a large learning collection of engaging videos. With audio and animation, the program is easy to follow. Students can quickly learn through step-by-step video instead of having to read long text. -Comprehensive: Every topic related to online marketing and website creation is covered. In addition, each topic details its relationship to business online subjects. Students learn how to effectively social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Pay-per-click advertising, search engine optimization and Google Ads are also covered. The UWCCorp Scam has been debunked. Businesses have come to realize that the UWCCorp Scam was just a tall tale and recognize the incredible value of the company’s training program.

Another similar article was posted on linkedin.com which you can read by clicking here. The article begins with the two sentences, “Word about the UWCCorp Scam has experienced a quick death. With so many rave reviews from students, it is clear that the web-based education training program at UWC is professional and effective.”

So then answer us this question, UWC; where can we see those “rave” reviews or those “countless” testimonials? You can search for those non-existent reviews on your search engine; type in “uwc corp reviews” or “uwc corp testimonials”, you will not get any luck. Instead, you will come across articles by some financial reporting websites, evidently paid by UWC Corp to post them, and on UWC’s own blogger site, UWCCorp Reviews, all promoting social media marketing as the next best thing; fitting too, since we are on the subject of “myths”!

Social media marketing doesn’t work. Users ignore the advertising put up on them, the same way as you vaguely close the banners on the Youtube video you are trying to watch, or skip the ads. Social media marketing benefits big companies because they pay social networking sites a fortune to promote them. For small businesses, social media marketing isn’t any better than Google adwords.
I did manage to find ONE positive review on UWC’s own weebly account

Q. What were you looking for before you signed up with Universal Web Consulting?
A. As a recent college graduate, I was excited to put my marketing skills to use in the real world. While I knew much about print and television advertising, I quickly realized that today’s marketing platform is all about the Internet, a medium I lacked comprehensive knowledge in. I needed a program that could teach me everything about online marketing from start to finish.

Q. As someone who completed the Universal Web Consulting training program, what would you say you gained?
A. Universal Web Consulting really helped me to learn the concrete skills necessary to handle online marketing from every angle. Knowing general marketing theory is great, but if you don’t have the know-how or the necessary tools to put them into action, that knowledge is of little use.

Q. As a student of the program, did you receive enough support?
A. Absolutely. Representatives were always available to help and willing to work through my issues as they arose. I felt that the entire team at Universal Web Consulting wanted me to succeed, so they did everything in their power to help me reach my goals.

Q. Specifically, what were some of the skills you acquired throughout the program?
A. One of my biggest fears was html code. Before I enrolled in the program, the thought of html was completely intimidating. However, after the first few sessions, I realized I had nothing to worry about. The program went at my pace and explained everything very well. Every question I had was answered and my fears were soon dissolved.

Who did they interview? Is it a real person? UWC Corp are no strangers to bogus comments when it comes to promoting their own business. Here are some of them posted on whocallsme.com

I only posted the comments from the first two pages; in total, they have swamped the first three pages in an almost chain pattern. Notice what these comments have in common? Most of them have been written in block capitals, others display a poor level of grammar, most notably where the pronoun “I” is written in lower case. Incidently, jewelries.com is NOT a UWC website, nice try to the commentator who mentioned the domain.
So, UWC Corp, how about some positive reviews from REAL people?

The Cellphone/Phone Part

If you have added your cellphone number during registering for this web package, credit will quietly disappear from your phone without you even noticing.

Not long after registering for the web package my cellphone went off saying “You do not have enough credit to send that txt message, please go to bla bla bla…”

(The standard message you get from your provider when you are out of credit)

Only.. I hadn’t sent a txt.

I called my provider and they looked up on my recent phone activity and it showed I had just been interacting with a cellphone number in the UK. It wasn’t even a subscription and there was nothing they could do to stop it. They said they hadn’t seen anything like it before.

**New Credit Card
**New Sim Card

I talked on the phone to an operator from (spammy):

This is the New Zealand targeted link.

The most convincing part is the comments section at the bottom of the page, all written by the same people. Asking and resolving questions at the same time.

“Does this really work guys..? I’m a bit skeptical.. how much effort do I have to put?”

At the bottom of the page you will notice that it says “Leave a Reply” then following… “The comment section is closed.”

I called the NZ 0800 number that they provided (0800 452-229) and talked to an American guy there. I calmly said I have just signed up but have decided not to follow through with the scheme and is a refund possible (not expecting anything). He asked for the same contact details were entered earlier and said that someone would be in touch with me in the next 24 – 48 business trading hours, but if I hadn’t heard from anyone just to call back.

I did call back an hour later to try and get the code to deactivate the “subscription” that they had added to my cellphone, but they disconnected while I was still in the waiting line.

Just now (some hours later) I have received an email from F.Lukas “frefobiz@stopwastingtime.info” saying “‘James’ want to ‘ger’ your cellphone to pay you?”

You will also notice that the New Zealand number to call on pages mymonthlywebfee.com & http://uwccorp.com are both different. And the number they e-mail upon registration is different once again being 0800 452 364

Toll free…. lets wait and see what the next phone bill is going to be. (:

As of 2012, the careerjournalonline.com link and its’ bogus comments has been taken off the internet.
